Dear Community,

It takes a village to raise our children and at SFUSD, we are grateful for our service employees. Our school clerks, custodians, food service workers, health workers, and others are unsung heroes of our school communities. They contribute every day by making SFUSD schools welcoming, nurturing, and supportive learning environments for our students.

On Tuesday, I shared an update after our bargaining session with UESF. I am writing today to share an update after Oct. 4’s bargaining session with the Service Employees International Union (SEIU). Over the last 10 months SFUSD has come to several tentative agreements with SEIU on several Articles to improve our employees’ working conditions. Notably, on October 4, 2023 we reached a tentative agreement with SEIU on Article 16, Clerical Provisions, which will enhance career pathways and increase promotional resources to ensure our clerical staff are set up for success.

SFUSD will continue to negotiate in good faith with our labor partners at SEIU to ensure that SEIU members are fairly compensated. SFUSD has proposed the following proposals during negotiations to ensure SEIU members are fairly and competitively compensated:

• Salary increase of 6% effective July 1, 2022 for all members
• Salary increase of 6% effective July 1, 2023 for all members
• One-time additional 4% increase for all members in fiscal year 2024-2025, effective July 1, 2024. This increase may be converted to an ongoing salary increase if certain conditions regarding the District’s budget and fiscal status are met.  

Our schools offer essential services, especially for students who are furthest from access. As a district, we will always prioritize the continuity of these critical services. We are committed to transparency and will be sharing up-to-date information about labor negotiations on our webpage. The District will continue to provide regular updates in in the coming weeks and remain responsive to the needs of our community.

I remain hopeful that we will reach an agreement with our labor partners. I deeply value every SFUSD employee and am grateful for the ways that they show up for San Francisco students and families every day.
